The hike is a steady climb within a fairly narrow valley. The hike does not offer distant views until hikers climb out of the valley just short of Lake Charles. The Lake itself offers fishing and camping and is situated within a spectacular alpine setting beneath Fools Peak. Hikers should plan on making the comparatively short hike up to Mystic Island Lake which also offers fishing and some camping.
Following the East Brush Creek up to one of the most scenic lakes in the area Lake Charles Trail rewards hikers with a spectacular retreat set in the Fools Peak basin. Fishing and camping are allowed and this hike makes a great two day trip.
