Hardscrabble and Pipeline offer a glimpse into the variety Eagle’s trails have to offer. Pipeline in particular offers some of the most scenic sections in Eagle. This trail has a very large portion that follows Hardscrabble Road which makes for a less interesting ride, however it also means that there aren’t any significant climbs. Hardscrabble climbs high onto Hardscrabble Mountain and the views from the top include Red Canyon, Castle Peak and even the Gore Range. Be sure to keep your eyes out for the turn onto Pipeline as it can be difficult to spot. The downhill on Pipeline is on narrow, rocky single track that offers a little more technical challenge. Two creek crossings also add interest. After turning onto Third Gulch the ride is all downhill to the parking area.

Alternate route: Start at the Haystacker Trailhead and ride up the Mayer Gulch Trail. Turn left at intersection 2 (See Photo Navigation). Return by riding down the Turniphead trail from Arroyo Drive parking lot to the Haystacker Trailhead.
