will create this year’s World Fly Fishing Championship
The 36th FIPS Mouche World Fly Fishing Championship is coming to the United States with anglers fishing the free flowing rivers and majestic lakes of the Rocky Mountains. More than 30 countries will attend the championship this September 11-18, 2016, in Colorado.
The Town of Vail is the location for the opening and closing ceremonies and host hotel, the Evergreen Lodge. This is the event headquarters along with: competitor lodging, meals, registration, captain’s meetings, and the posting of scores. This will be a great place to meet and mingle with the international teams and to enjoy the festive atmosphere.
Competitors will fish the Eagle River in Wolcott and Gypsum, the Colorado River near Dotsero, Sylvan Lake near the Town of Eagle, and Dillon Reservoir at the Town of Frisco. Fishing venues are divided into 5 sectors where each angler fishes for 3 hours over 5 sessions. Bring a camera and enjoy the beautiful scenery of Colorado and watch true masters of the fly rod in action.
A Conservation Symposium will be held to highlight area and global watershed issues with a showing of DamNation. Speakers will be from Colorado Parks & Wildlife and Colorado Trout Unlimited. Hosted at the Ford Amphitheater and open to the public.
Derek DeYoung will provide an Art Show on the final day of the championship. The Vail Marriott will be adorned with art in a celebration to fly fishing. All are welcome to come visit with Derek and see his unique style of paintings.
The medal ceremony will be on Bridge Street in Vail Village. Watch team and individual medals get awarded while national anthems are played and nation’s flags are raised. Cheer alongside all the competitors as the medals and trophies are held high. Closing speeches are made and the ‘Sacred Scroll’ is passed to the next host nation.
Fishing venues are divided into 5 sectors.
