Top Ten U.S. Motorcycle Rides Within 100 Miles of Eagle, Epic Terrain Access Steps from Downtown

EAGLE, CO – Hikes, bikes, rivers, lakes and mountainous landscapes are all quintessential to marketing Colorado as a world-class destination. Eagle, Colorado is home to a secret kind of recreation – motorcycling.

Butler Maps and Rever are two leaders in motorcycle mapping, and their companies are based in Eagle. The Butler Maps crew has ridden more than 2,000,000 miles collectively around the United States, identifying and mapping the best motorcycle rides in the nation.

“We live here because Eagle is within 100 miles of the top ten motorcycle rides in the nation,” said Court Butler, owner and creator of Butler Maps. “Motorcycles are a lifestyle, and Eagle is poised perfectly for amazing rides.”

Rever is an app for both iPhone and Android that incorporates Butler Maps and other rides across the United States into mapping software. Users can login and map their rides, interact with each other and discover new terrain. “Eagle is an amazing place to ride,” said Blake Conner of Rever. “We’ve got three rides that are accessed directly through town, which makes Eagle the best place to set up camp and ride for a few days.”

This August, the Veterans Charity Ride passed through Eagle on their ride from Los Angeles, California to Sturgis, South Dakota.  Eagle was chosen as one of eight stops along the way because of its breath-taking rides.

Take a ride, enjoy the scenery and Exit at Eagle to go “whole hog” on a prime, motorcycle adventure basecamp.

Top Three Rides from Eagle, CO

Colorado River Road Route

Colorado River Road Route
This route can be ridden either clockwise or counterclockwise. If riding the latter direction, follow the route out of downtown Eagle, along Highway 6 to Wolcott and take the loop to the north through McCoy, Bond, and Burns. On the western side of the loop the road follows the Colorado River south toward Dotsero. The northern section of this route is on a dirt road, making it ideal for adventure or dual-sport motorcycles.

This route out of downtown Eagle, heads west to Gypsum along Highway 6, and then over Cottonwood Pass into Basalt. It then heads through Glenwood Springs and back east into Eagle. This is a great adventure-bike or dual-sport road. Although the condition of the road varies depending on weather, the road is well maintained and can be ridden on almost any type of motorcycle. Cottonwood Pass Road does have seasonal winter closures (typically November through April), so check with Garfield or Eagle County before riding.

Mountain Biking

With more than 100 miles of singletrack open until mid-December, Eagle is the perfect destination for mountain biking adventure. The trail system is unique and built with all levels of riders in mind.  Your journey will take you over a variety of winding singletrack through high desert, aspen groves and dense, fragrant evergreen forests.

Eagle Mountain Biking

Being in the banana belt of the Rockies has its advantage too. Eagle’s town-owned open space trails are open April 15-December 15 every year, yielding about four more months of riding than our mountain town neighbors. BLM trails such as Boneyard, Redneck Ridge and the first two loops of the Haymaker Trail stay open year-round.

National Geographic recently named Eagle as one of the Top 20 Mountain Biking Towns in the United States. With climates less harsh than Grand Junction and Fruita, Eagle is the best basecamp for mountain biking in Colorado.

Eagle’s friendly mountain town vibe and growing bike culture will make you want to relocate or at least think twice before heading toward some of our more well-known neighboring resorts.  Eagle is a place where you catch the mountain biking bug. Riders can start on beginner trails like Haymaker and Eagle Ranch Loops and then advance to the technical Mike’s Night Out – hard to get there but the downhill is worth the sweat. Eagle Ranch Loops is great for families and various skill levels. Riders can add more miles and create smaller or larger loops.
